How Blue Was Invented
(For Kim)
A long long time ago when there wasn‘t the color blue yet, the ruler of colors went through the land. He liked to have very long walks throughin and throughout the land to look at all the wonderful colors he had painted all things with. That is why he was called ruler of colors. He always had a very big brush and a huge paintbucket with him that held every color he thought of. And whith his brush and paintbucket he painted the grass green and the tomates red. He painted the trees trunks in all shades of brown while he painted every single leave with a nice and deep green. The Ruler of Colors especially liked to paint birds. Here he thought of the wildest colors and painted them in every way he could think of so that no two had the same colors.
So one day the Ruler of Colors took a walk that was long even for his standards. It was already late when he stood before a place where the ground got sandy and finally there wasn‘t any ground anymore but only water. The Ruler of Colors had reached the sea which he had never seen before. He only stood there and could do nothing but stare at the huge sea that strechted to the horizon. Never in his whole life he had seen something that big and that impressive.
That‘s why it took him a while to realize that the whole sea was gray and dull. When the Ruler of Colors realized that he wondered how he hadn‘t realized it right when he saw it. And so he decided to paint the sea. But he didn‘t want to use any color he already had used. He wanted to make a whole new one because he thought that something this big and impressive deserved a whole color of its own. And that‘s when the Ruler of Colors invented blue and started painting the whole of the sea blue. He was so very excited that he even slipped over the border and got a bit of blue on the sky too. That gave him an idea. He wanted to have a bit of sea everywhere he went. And because of that he decided to paint the sky blue too. This way he would only need to look up and be reminded of the great sea.
This is how the blue color was invented and how the sky got blue.
